Our short break supports are flexible and person-centred. They range from planned regular short breaks of a few hours, a few weeks, or support in times of crisis or emergency.
Short breaks can be:
- community-based
- in the person's family home, or
- in our adapted short break flats, available in Annan, Stranraer and Nairn.
We also have an accessible holiday lodge available for rent in Wemyss Bay Holiday Park. If you would like to know more about this, contact Wemyss Bay Lodge.
To make sure that the person and their family get what want from their short break experience we:
- Get to know the person
- Involve them and their family planning in the short break
- Work alongside other professionals and the important people in the person's life
- Build upon existing support plans and risk assessments to maintain consistency.
People use their short breaks in lots of different ways, for example to:
- Have a holiday
- Try new interests
- Learn skills for life
- Do fun things.
Everyone who uses our short breaks supports also has a plan of what they want to get from it. This might be:
- Take a break from day-to-day routines
- Time to rest
- Meet new people
- Keep up with friendships
- Try new experiences
- Become more independent.
