Speaking up for social care

As part of the work we're doing to raise awareness of the work we do and the value of our sector, we recently met with Neil Gray MSP, Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health & Social Care, in his constituency. 

During the short get together, people we support shared their experiences of the support they receive and local staff spoke with warmth and passion about their roles, no matter how complex the work can sometimes be. 

Of course, part of the conversation reflected upon the challenges currently facing social care, and Mr Gray listened carefully to people's concerns. And while there aren't any quick fixes for what everyone in social care is facing, people we support were characteristically honest with him about what they think needs to happen and the issues they are most worried about. 

Everyone there was really clear that we need investment so that more people can access the support they need to live good lives. And, that we want the Scottish Government to deliver on fair pay for third sector social care staff.
